"The Hunger Games: Mockingjay" Split Into Dual Finale

The wildly popular "Hunger Games" book series will be split into four movies, according to Lionsgate Films.

Although the first sequel "Catching Fire" will be released as one film on November 22, 2013, the third and final installment of the triology, "Mockingjay" will be split into two parts with the first film being released on November 21, 2014 and part two debuting on November 20, 2015.

The production company is making sure they lock in the lucrative Thanksgiving release dates for all the films and according to reports, "Mockingjay Part 2" is making history as the furthest future scheduled film of any upcoming Hollywood film. It's a seeming trend as "Catching Fire" has yet to start production.

Filmmakers are likely taking the hint from the success of both the "Harry Potter" and "Twilight" franchises, which both split the final film of the series into two parts.

The news comes shortly after Oscar-winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman was announced as joining the cast, injecting a little star power into the first upcoming sequel.
